Tjaša Ficko, Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana to speak at 52nd IMCL Conference

In 2016 the City of Ljubljana, Slovenia will be celebrating their year with the title of European Green Capital. We are delighted to announce that Tjaša Ficko, Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana will talk at the Bristol Conference about her city's initiatives that won it this title.

The jury was impressed by how Ljubljana is raising environmental awareness amongst its citizens, by it's sustainability strategy 'Vision 2025', its implementation of a range of urban green measures over the past decade and its impressive transportation network.

Ljubljana has transformed the city center into a primarily pedestrian network, developed public transit and a bike network throughout the city, and calmed traffic on its main traffic arteries.  Parks and green spaces have been preserved and protected, and brownfield spaces are being revitalized.

Ljubljana follows Bristol as a recipient of this prestigious award. The award is bestowed upon the city that has achieved the highest environmental standards and is committed to ambitious goals towards further environmental improvement and sustainable development. The aim of this initiative is therefore to commend and reward local efforts to improve the environment, economy and the quality of life in cities.
