Freiburg, Germany
September 5-9, 1995
The City of Freiburg-im-Breisgau is proud to extend a warm welcome to participants of the 17th International Making Cities Livable Conference, to be held in Freiburg, September 5-9, 1995.
As mayors of this beautiful city, we are proud that Freiburg has been selected as host city for this significant conference. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the leading public officials, urban designers, planners, professionals and non-professionals from around the world, who will share their vision and experience on how to make effective and livable cities. There will also be occasions for you to enjoy our historic city and surroundings.
Freiburg, the capital city of the Black Forest, enjoys a unique geographic position. With its extensive pedestrian zone, clear architectural guidelines, renowned daily market around the cathedral, its unique street paving and sensitive restoration, its cheerful atmosphere and wealth of festivals, and its ecological transportation system, Freiburg offers many lessons for those devoted to making cities and towns finer places to live and work.
It is most fitting that the special theme selected for the Freiburg IMCL Conference will be the design of NEW URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS. Our goal, at Rieselfeld, on Freiburg’s periphery, is to create a new neighborhood with an urban character, organically connected to the whole city.
We look forward to meeting you in Freiburg.
