Design Awards Competition - Selection Process

ONLY those projects worthy of inclusion in the Final Round will be selected for the IMCL Awards Competition. All selected designs will be on display in a PPT slide show loop through the Conference. Winning projects will be announced at the Awards Ceremony. Winning projects will also be published in IMCL publications, on the IMCL website and elsewhere.

Those who submit a project that is not accepted will receive a rejection letter with specific references to IMCL published submission criteria. If a project has merit, but is not professionally presented, it will be returned with encouragement and a recommendation for future submission with better/clearer graphics.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION. If your project is selected for the Final Round of the Competition, one or more representatives must register for the Conference. Representatives must also be present at the Awards Ceremony on June 4, 2020, in case your project receives an Award. Registration fee for each competitor is reduced to US $643.50. This includes Discussion Dinner/Awards Ceremony, Conference Luncheon, receptions, and full conference participation.

CRITERIA FOR AWARDS.  Awards will be given to those projects which best exemplify the spirit and principles of IMCL, and the goal of making cities more sustainable and equitable. Applicants are referred to the section BASIC IMCL PRINCIPLES, included in this call for submissions, and the Mission statement on the IMCL website.

An awards jury will be made up of selected members of the IMCL Board, and invited internationally recognized urbanists.

Any, all or none of the following distinctions may be awarded by the jury to projects in either the BUILT category or PROPOSED category:

  • Honor Award (no more than one in each category) and $500 Prize
  • Merit Awards (no more than three in each category)
  • Accepted for Final Round (unlimited in each category)

In addition, every project selected by the jury for inclusion in the Final Round of the Conference will receive a Certificate (unlimited in each category)

IMCL will proudly publicize all of the results of the competition and awards program as representing IMCL aspirations in IMCL publications, on the IMCL website and elsewhere.
